sleep

I usually only work one shift a week.  Friday night so Paul will be home on Saturday and I can sleep.  Recently though they have been calling offering double bonuses and I have found out exactly how much in terms of $ amount my sleep is worth...and its alot.

we are buying a house

We close at the end of the month on a small 1960s house near a nice park in Lynn Haven Florida.  The commute will be a little bit longer for Paul, but not much.  We will still be near the water, and about the same distance to the beach.

I am hoping that moving into our own space will provide some creative release for me.  Right now every time I feel the urge to start something or make something, I've been telling myself to wait for the move.  Luckily its coming really soon because I have really been craving a creative project.

Its possible that moving will not make much difference because even with the space and the purpose, most of my energy its taken by taking care of Sylvia.  Really I often feel that I am just fighting to get enough sleep, keep our apartment reasonably clean, and eat.  Thankfully my gut feeling is that this move will be very good for me and inspire a lot of productivity.

I think this move will be like the move from Tanglewood to Corry (two different grad student housing villages @UF)  though, not that different but opening up a huge amount of creative flow.  

That's about it, Sylvia cried all night last night and I think that is why she is sleeping so well tonight.  I hope she sleeps a lot tomorrow because tomorrow night I do my one shift a week at the hospital.  Good thing they buy us pizza.

Conference Traditions

This weekend is the general conference for The church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I am a member of that church, and I LOVE general conference (you can watch it here).  There are two two-hour sessions on Saturday and two on Sunday.

In between the sessions you get a two hour break.  Paul and I started a tradition of playing "saucer" better known as frisbee and catch with baseball/gloves.  Its a fun tradition, it encourages out door activity and discussion...we love it!

This weekend was our first conference in Panama City and we had the perfect place to play.  The weather was so perfect that we were outside playing even before conference started.  There was a cool breeze, but it was warm and sunny.

I was wearing jean pants and gym shoes but I could not resist the perfect temperature of the water and air.  So I jumped in (no pictures sorry too busy...we aren't very good at remembering to take pictures) and swam out to this sailboat.

After I swam back (its farther than it looks) Paul did the same thing.

we still played saucer and catch, but I would say we added a new tradition to conference :)

New Job

Started a new job...that's where all my time went.  I will be glad when training is over and I can be enjoying my PRN status and pick my schedule.  I am also considering going back to school!?!  Just slowly starting some online classes and working toward NP........But I am not sure that is what I want, so for now I am doing some research and reading allnurses forums.

Also Sylvia is cute and maybe teething?

Changing my style

Yes it is.
When I was on my mission in Malaysia my whole concept of fashion changed.  I am speaking mostly of the time I spend in Borneo.  First off fashion seemed frivolous and silly while I was there. I was teaching people in some pretty dire life circumstances, and the western idea of "fashion", trends and that people pay way too much money for something that doesn't matter seemed not just silly but almost insulting.

BUT there were some things that people wore there that I started finding myself attracted to as well

For example most of the women would wear a gold or silver bracelets around each ankle, and I must admit that I almost bought a pair myself.

Or people would wear a lot of batik fabric wraps around the house...and indeed I had a dress made of the material.

and when I was transferred to KL I wore this

all of this seemed very cool and the hippest thing to be wearing at the time.

It didn't help when I returned and Ikat (which is originally from malaysia/indonesian) fabric patterns were on trend, it pretty much confirmed what I had been feeling the whole time.

So now (sorry for the looong post) I live in the south.
and I find myself wondering
...is country music actually cool?
...is camo print clothing "in" ?(the answer to that one is def still no)
....are southern accents charming? ( I notice I am occasionally tempted to say y'all)
